KIT208 - Assignment 3

Development of Interface Application

Introduction

This report takes an in-depth look at application development that leverages augmented reality (AR). The app is called "LinguaAnimals". This program is an AR project created in Unity and is an educational tool that uses augmented reality (AR) to teach children about animals and languages. The main goal is to provide children with a rich multilingual learning experience by displaying the names of various animals in English, Chinese, and Japanese.

"LinguaAnimals" aims to provide an immersive learning environment for children to learn and understand animal names in English, Chinese, and Japanese, thereby cultivating multilingual abilities early and promoting language diversity and cognitive development.

Description of the application

LinguaAnimals presents children with an interactive virtual animal world where a variety of animals are displayed, and each animal is labeled with its name in English, Chinese, and Japanese. Children can observe these 3D animal models and switch between languages to achieve learning effects.

In education, LinguaAnimals bridges the language learning gap for children, making learning new languages and vocabulary more engaging and intuitive. It uses visual and auditory stimulation to enhance memory and understanding of foreign languages, allowing children to learn more about their language potential. Secondly, in real life, learning multiple languages always helps a lot, and the younger you start learning languages, the easier it is to learn them. Promote early language acquisition and cultural appreciation by combining language learning with fun AR environments.

Augmented reality (AR) enhances the learning experience, making it more immersive and interactive. The forms of AR and VR are similar, enhancing the integration of the natural world and the virtual world. This dramatically increases children's interest in learning and mobilizes their enthusiasm, which is more effective than traditional learning methods.

Interaction Design

Interaction is essential for user engagement and knowledge storage. Users can learn different languages by clicking on an animal, reading, and observing how the animal is pronounced and written in different countries.

The user opens the application and points the device to a flat surface. Open the given background image and click on each animal. The user will receive information about the animal in English, Chinese, and Japanese. For example, interacting with a dog image will display "dog model, Dog - 狗 - 犬," allowing users to learn and compare names in different languages.

Technical Development

The app was developed using Unity and leverages the AR Foundation for AR functionality compatible with ARCore (Android). Participants can interact with 3D models for a rich learning experience.
